In light of recent updates, Companies House has introduced an online appeal process for late filings. While this might sound like a safety net for late submissions, we strongly urge you not to rely on it as a fallback. Companies House has a reputation for being extremely strict when it comes to late filings, and only in very rare and extraordinary circumstances will an appeal be successful.
In our experience, even events like severe weather that made mail delivery impossible have not been accepted as valid reasons for a late filing. The response in such cases was typically along the lines of, “you should have ensured the accounts were filed earlier.” This highlights the rigid stance that Companies House takes, even in the face of unforeseen natural events.
Given this, we cannot stress enough how important it is to avoid leaving yourself vulnerable to late filing penalties. We strongly recommend that all necessary documents and information are sent to us, or your accountant, well in advance of the deadline. Relying on the appeal process, especially in cases of natural disruptions like snowdrifts, is not a safe strategy.
If you’re concerned about meeting your accounting deadlines or need any advice, don’t hesitate to get in touch with us. We’re here to help ensure that your filings are submitted on time and without complications.
